The Islamic Center of Longview ( ICL ) was established in the early 1990s,

is a vital institution for the Muslim community in Longview, Texas and surrounding areas of East Texas.

Founded by a group of a few local Muslim families, the center was created to serve the growing needs of Muslims in the region, providing a space for worship, community gathering, and religious education.

The early years of the ICL were characterized by modest beginnings. The initial efforts focused on securing a place where muslims could conduct daily prayers and celebrate significant Islamic occasions. The first musalla, or temporary masjid, was established in a small 1 bedroom apartment in central Longview.

However, as the Muslim population in Longview expanded, the center grew in both size and scope. The community's commitment to maintaining and enhancing the center led to several phases of development, including the expansion into a proper masjid in 2012 in North Longview that held the 5 daily prayer areas and the addition of educational facilities to help teach younger muslims in the east Texas community.

In contemporary times, the masjid continues to be a cornerstone of the local Muslims, hosting regular prayers, Friday Jumu'ah services, and various community events. Its activities reflect a commitment to both religious observance and social engagement. Through charitable initiatives and community service, the Longview Islamic Center contributes significantly to the broader social fabric of Longview.

The history of the Islamic Center of Longview is a testament to the dedication of Muslims in the rural Texas areas and the ongoing efforts of its members. It illustrates the dynamic growth of a local Muslim community and highlights the center's role in fostering a sense of belonging, providing spiritual guidance, and educating others and the Muslim community.
